Cameroonian Lawmaker Slams NPF With Lawsuit, Alleges Human Right Violations
A Cameroonian lawmaker, Manghe Romeo Etta has slammed the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) with a lawsuit..
He has filed a lawsuit at the Cross River State High Court accusing the police of unlawful arrest, detention and violation of his fundamental rights.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Etta, who represents Manyu Division in Cameroon’s National Assembly, is demanding N200 million as compensation .
The lawmaker said he had purchased a BMW X1 from a car dealer in Ikom and duly completed documentation, including registration and transfer of ownership but however, despite presenting the vehicle particulars, the police impounded the car and accused him of stealing it.
He added that this was done at the instance of the car dealer, Mr Ebi Denis Ebi and a woman called Mengot Gift Achugah.
Etta said he was detained for about 12 hours in poor conditions, during which he became ill, and was made to pay N150,000 before regaining his freedom while his vehicle was towed to the Ikom Divisional Police Station.
He added that repeated efforts to secure the release of the car failed despite making documents proving lawful ownership available.
The lawmaker’s lawyer, Armstrong Takim Achu said his client is seeking redress for ‘clear violations’ of fundamental rights.
The suit with docket number HC/146F/2025, is currently before Justice Theresa Agom of the Cross River State High Court, who has adjourned the case until February 10, 2026, while ordering all parties to attend the next court sitting-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
