CBN: Special Investigator Appointed To Probe Emefiele Era

CBN: Special Investigator Appointed To Probe Emefiele Era

President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Mr. Jim Obazee, as ‘special investigator’ to probe the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the president officially informed Jim Obazee of his appointment via a letter addressed to him which was dated July 28, 2023.

‘In accordance with the fundamental objective set forth in Section 15(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), this administration is, today, continuing the fight against corruption by appointing you as a Special Investigator, to investigate the CBN and Related Entities. This appointment shall be with immediate effect and you are to report directly to my office.

The full terms of your engagement as Special Investigator shall be communicated to you in due course but, require that you immediately take steps to ensure the strengthening and probity of key Government Business Entities, further block leakages in the CBN and related GBEs and provide a comprehensive report on public wealth currently in the hands of corrupt individuals and establishments (whether private or public).

You are to investigate the CBN and related entities using a suitably experienced, competent and capable team and work with relevant security and anti-corruption agencies to deliver on this assignment. I shall expect a weekly briefing on the progress being made’ the president submitted in the letter in question while attaching a copy of the letter suspending Mr. Godwin Emefiele as CBN governor.

Mr. Godwin Emefiele , who had served as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) since  June 4  2014, was suspended from his position on June 9, 2023.

It will be recalled that the  apex bank  had  on October 26 last year announced that circulation of the newly redesigned N100, N200, N500 and N1,000 naira notes would begin on December 15, 2022.

It will equally be recalled that ahead of the   2023 general election, the way the exercise was carried out had resulted in scarcity of naira notes and its concomitant hardships -Team@orientactualmags.com
