Clara Ogunbiyi Becomes Acting Head Of Police Service Commission
A retired Supreme Court Justice, Clara Ogunbiyi , would be taking over as head of the Police Service Commission , PSC, following the decision of Alhaji Musilu Smith to retire from his position as Chairman of the commission.
The commission and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba had disagreed over the handling of recruitment, promotion, and appointment of constables and officers.
Smith , a one-time Inspector General of Police , was appointed as PSC Chairman by President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2018 .
Team@orientactualmags.com learned activities had been paralyzed at the commission for a few weeks now following the indefinite strike by the PSC workers .
It will be recalled that Smith was also removed by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo as Police chief on Wednesday, 6 March, 2002 five weeks after junior police officers embarked on strike over pay.
Ogunbiyi will head the commission in acting capacity until President Muhammadu Buhari appoints a substantive chairman.
Spokesman for the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, had since confirmed Smith’s resignation.
The acting head of the commission, retired Justice Clara Ogunbiyi , headed the five-member Court of Appeal panel that declared Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as winner of the April 2007 Osun state gubernatorial election on 26 November 2010- Team@orientactualmags.com
