Communal Violence: Gov Adeleke Imposes Nighttime Curfew On Ifon, Ilobu Communities

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State on Friday announced the decision to impose nighttime curfew on Ifon and Ilobu communities so as to contain the renewed communal violence in the two communities in question.

Residents of the two towns have been told to stay in their houses from 6pm to 6am.

It will be recalled that after a renewed communal violence involving the two communities, the governor, had a few weeks ago, ordered the imposition of a curfew.

 Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi,  in a statement he issued in Osogbo and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Friday noted that an important ‘stakeholder meeting’ will be held tomorrow which will have the  Olufon of Ifon, HRM Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye, HRM Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, the Olobu of Ilobu, and other stakeholders from the two communities in attendance.

‘His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, has expressed unhappiness and dissatisfaction with the renewed communal violence involving Ilobu and Ifon.

To this end, the governor has directed that the initial 10 PM to 4 AM curfew should be extended to 6PM to 6AM, effective from today, Friday, 21st March 2025, until further notice.

Mr. Governor has equally directed that the joint security team comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps should continue to maintain their usual 24-hour surveillance to ensure zero tolerance for any act of lawlessness.

In addition, the governor has directed that an immediate stakeholder meeting which will be attended by the Olufon of Ifon, HRM Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye, HRM Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, the Olobu of Ilobu, and other stakeholders from both communities should be held tomorrow, Saturday, 22nd March 2025, to discuss further resolutions of the conflict.

Finally, His Excellency urges all sons and daughters of the two communities, as well as their traditional rulers, to follow the path of peace and harmonious co-existence.
