Edo State House of Assembly held a confirmation hearing for a former member of the House of Representatives, Dr Samson Osagie on Wednesday.
Recall that he was nominated as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice by Governor Monday Okpebholo on Tuesday.
The governor shortly after being sworn in on Tuesday had announced Osagie’s nomination as Commissioner for Justice.
In a letter sent to the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Blessing Agbebaku, Okpebholo had asked the Assembly to confirm Osagie’s nomination while urging them to also consider and pass the 2024 supplementary budget to ensure smooth governance.
Confirming the nominee, Agbebaku noted that Osagie served as a member of the house of Assembly from 1999 to 2007 and should not therefore be subjected to a rigorous screening exercise.
The Speaker also added that Osagie, a former House of Representatives member, ‘should be allowed to ‘take a bow and leave’ in line with the House’s tradition recognizing contributions of former lawmakers at both state and national levels’.
The House of Assembly subsequently confirmed Samson Osagie’s nomination as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice .
