Confirmation Hearing: Jemila Bio Asked To ‘Take A Bow And Leave’ As Abbas Balarabe Collapses Before Responding To Questions

A cabinet nominee, Abbas Balarabe collapsed before responding to questions from senators during  his ‘confirmation hearing’  on Wednesday.

Balarabe had just finished  giving his speech and he suddenly collapsed while one of the senators from Kaduna state was praising his leadership qualities.

The Senate President, GodsWill Akpabio, had  immediately called for help  and said ‘Bring water and sugar. Call Dr Musa’ .

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Akpabio also immediately called for a closed-door session.

Recall that the immediate past governor of Kaduna  state,  Mallam Nasir El-Rufai , was earlier nominated as minister by the president.

Elrufai , a one -time FCT minister, was among the 48 individuals nominated as ministers by President Bola Tinubu a few weeks ago, and though confirmation hearings were held for them, the senate however refused to confirm the former Kaduna state governor and two others;  Stella Okotete (Delta state) and Danladi Umar (Taraba state).

President Tinubu named Abbas Balarabe as Elrufai’s replacement in the letter read out during plenary session by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday

In the meanwhile, a confirmation hearing had earlier been held for the  cabinet nominee from Kwara state ,Dr Jemila Bio.

She was asked to ‘take a bow and leave’ at exactly 1.21 pm as no question was posed to her.

Deputy Senate Minority Leader ,Senator Lere  Oyewumi had noted that his first son attended the same primary school with the cabinet nominee and that ‘it is important to encourage young Nigerians’, who have taken a decision to remain in the country and not ‘japa’.

Senator Oyewumi urged his colleagues to allow her take a bow and leave a development that the Senate President , Godswill Akpabio described as commendable.

‘Distinguished colleagues, hearing the commendations from the leaders on the other side , commending the president for the inclusion of young people in governance and encouraging the well- educated young Nigerians is commendable’ he said.

Dr Jemila Bio had earlier thanked her parents and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their support.
