Confirmation Hearing: Oyetola Enjoys ‘Unique’ Support From Osun Senators

Former governor of Osun state,  Alhaji Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola , was  at the National Assembly Complex  for his ‘confirmation hearing’ on Friday  and what  the three senators from the State of the Living Spring did on the floor of the senate had since become a topical reference.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Oyetola was the first cabinet nominee to mount the podium and he did this  at 12:14 pm.

After reading out his profile, the three senators made Oyetola enjoy a special privilege by ‘showing solidarity’ and taking a step to ease the confirmation process.

  The  senators in question ; Fadeyi Olubiyi, Lere Oyewunmi and Francis Fadahunsi , who are though members of the PDP,  however urged their colleagues to allow ‘our brother’ take a bow and leave.

‘I want to congratulate you for being found worthy to have been nominated by the president as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The man standing before us has many accolades. When our brother from Ogun state, particularly the one from Ekiti state, Dele Alake was here, the senator from Ekiti described him as Ajiroba ( The one  who is the first person to see the king in the morning) but the man standing before us today is more than an Ajiroba, he is an Abobaji (The one who  stays in same apartment with the king) because they say blood is thicker than water, the three  PDP lawmakers from Osun state, yesterday met with our governor, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, and I am speaking on his behalf and he told us to give our total support to Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola as the next minister from Osun state.

Osun is a young state yearning for development, and we believe that it can come from anybody, and he is one of our leaders.

And we believe that if we work together, it will be all the better for Osun state . We have no objection to his nomination, and we believe he would perform’ Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewunmi , Osun West, submitted.

‘I thank the president for finding Osun state worthy of a ministerial nomination.

We both attended the University of Lagos although I was a year ahead of him. Oyetola was one of the pioneer students  at the Department of Insurance in UNILAG and he brought his financial expertise to play in the state.

He is also a strong lawyer and a faithful ally of President Bola Tinubu. He has been in private and public life for over 30 years.

My distinguished colleagues, I brought to you a man that has performed very well.  He is a man of repute, a good manager of wealth and people.

My distinguished colleagues, I bring a man that has performed to the best of his own ability and to our own admiration, to you to please kindly at the end of the day approve his nomination by the President’  Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) had earlier submitted.

 Senate President, Godswill Akpabio called this a welcome development and noted that it was commendable.

 ‘This is very good for Democracy in Nigeria when you see an opposition party speaking on behalf of a nominee from the majority party.

That is why the Senate is totally different, we speak on behalf of everybody irrespective of party lines.

I am very delighted about what you people have said. Hearing from the horse’s mouth, I don’t think we have much to say to you, Mr. nominee.”

I think this is very good for Nigeria’s democracy. When you hear members of the opposing party speaking on behalf of a nominee from the majority party that is why the senate is very different. We speak across party lines. We are not interested in the party when we come here.

I am very delighted to hear what you have just said. Your people have sanctioned that you represent them. Your governor who is from a different party has sent emissaries here’ he said.

Alhaji Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Insurance from the University of Lagos in 1978, established the Silvertrust Insurance Brokers Limited in 1991.
