Cops Urged To Ensure ‘Professionalism’ As Third-Party Insurance Enforcement Begins In Kwara

The police have begun the enforcement of the mandatory minimum of Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance in Kwara State with the state Police Chief, Mr Victor Olaiya, a Commissioner of Police, urging cops to ensure professionalism.

Spokesperson for the state police command, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, a Superintendent of Police, in a statement she issued in Ilorin and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Sunday noted that the third-party insurance enforcement is being coordinated by the Commissioner of Police and the DC Operations.

‘In compliance with the directives of the 22nd indigenous Inspector General of Police, Federal Republic of Nigeria, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, the Kwara State Police Command under CP Victor Olaiya’s exemplary leadership has commenced the third-party vehicle insurance enforcement across the state.

The third-party vehicle insurance enforcement is being coordinated by the Commissioner of Police alongside the DC Operations; it commenced on February 1, 2025. Area Commanders, DPOs and Heads of tactical teams have been directed and mandated to monitor the extent of compliance among motorists in the state. The CP warned that officers must maintain a high level of professionalism, as the image and integrity of Nigeria Police Force should not be tarnished while carrying out the enforcement.

The enforcement aligns with Section 68 of the Insurance Act; and Sections 1, 2, 3 of the Motor Vehicle (Third-Party Insurance) Act, which requires all vehicle owners to secure a third-party insurance policy before operating their vehicles on Nigerian roads.

The insurance policy guarantees safety of road users/victims from liabilities of road accidents.  The CP Victor Olaiya psc(+) urges all vehicle owners in Kwara state, to obtain or update their Third-Party insurance to avoid legal sanctions as stipulated by the law. The enforcement of this exercise continues with close supervision’ she submitted-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
