
A Federal High Court in Dutse, Jigawa state on Thursday acquitted former Senator Saminu Turaki of fraud charges.
It will be recalled that he had a few years ago, been taken to court by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC which accused him of misappropriating N8.3billion belonging to Jigawa state during his governorship. He served as governor of Jigawa state from 1999 to 2007.
Turaki and three other companies had stood trial since May 4, 2007 and they had faced 33 counts.
The former governor was brought before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal Capital Territory High Court on July 13, 2007.
The case was, however, transferred to the Federal High Court, Dutse in 2011 after the former governor had challenged the jurisdiction of the FCT division of the federal high court.
Justice Hassan Dikko, was later asked to take over the case which had been formerly handled by Justice S. Yahuza before his retirement .
Team@orientactualmags.com learned the presiding judge, Justice Hassan Dikko, who delivered the ruling, struck out all charges and declared the accused persons acquitted citing want of diligent prosecution.
The court further ordered that the travel document of the first accused person, Saminu Turaki, be released to him with immediate effect- Team@orientactualmags.com
