This is not the best of times for the local government chairmen and councilors in Osun state as they have had their continued stay in office hanging in the balance for eight days now.
The Federal High Court , Osogbo on Friday refused to grant an oral application for stay of execution of the judgment sacking the embattled local government chairmen and councilors.
Justice Ayo-Nathaniel Emmanuel of the Federal High Court , Osogbo, last week declared the local government elections conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) on October 15, 2022 as illegal, null and void, adding that it was not conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act of 2022.
The court had also ordered the local government chairmen and councilors that were declared as winners of the local government elections in question to vacate the respective local government secretariats and offices with immediate effect.
Governor Ademola Adeleke in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Friday by his spokesman, Mallam Rasheed Olawale has warned against unlawful activities at the local governments and the area councils.
‘The Federal High Court has thrown out the application for stay of execution this morning and the ruling has generated negative reactions from the opposition party and their legal functionaries with an alleged incitement to violence even emanating from some members of the bar.
Governor Adeleke has cautioned against any conduct or activities that may be inimical to the peace and progress of Osun state and he has directed security agencies to ensure strict maintenance of law and order’ the statement said – Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
