Former Senator Shehu Sani, who is a human right activist, has disclosed that he will be joining the 2027 Kaduna Central senate race .
Team@orientatualmags.com learned that Sani, who represented Kaduna Central between 2015 and 2019, said this on Sunday while delivering his Eid-el-Fitr message at his residence in Kaduna.
He has also declared total support for Governor Uba Sani’s re-election.
‘Any politician contesting an election depends on the political equation that determines the position to vie for. If the conditions are right and the equations are favorable, I will offer myself to contest specifically for the Kaduna Central senatorial district.
For now, our priority is to see that the incumbent governor, Uba Sani, is re-elected. We will work with all our might and strength to achieve this. We know there will be challenges and opposition, but we are well prepared for all forces’ he said.
He also urged Muslims to pray for Nigeria’s peace and unity during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations while condemning the recent killing of hunters in Edo State, and asking security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators.
‘If citizens cannot move freely across the country, then we are not truly a nation. If individuals take the law into their hands for any reason, it means there is no government or authority’ he added.
The development recorded on Sunday signaled that the ‘dead’ friendship between Governor Uba Sani and former senator Shehu Sani has been brought back to life.
This was apparently because the good relationship between Governor Uba Sani and his immediate predecessor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has been dealt a blow.
Huge cracks had become visible in the wall of Kaduna state APC last year and since necessary steps were not quickly taken to bring the situation under control, the cracks became too wide for mere fingers to fix them and the wall broke!
El-rufai had since left APC for SDP.
Ahead of the 2015 general election, Shehu Sani and El-Rufai had sought to get the Kaduna State APC gubernatorial nomination, but the former minister eventually earned the governorship nomination while Shehu got the Kaduna Central APC senate nomination.
Shehu had also gotten ready to contest the gubernatorial primary election with El-Rufai ahead of the 2019 general election but was not only denied this opportunity but also somewhat forced to leave the party for People’s Redemption Party (PRP).
Governor Sani and Shehu Sani have been close friends for years and to throw him (Shehu Sani) off balance, El-Rufai placed the APC Kaduna Central senate nomination on the laps of Uba Sani and later ensured that he emerged as his successor in 2023 after he had spent four years in the senate.
It was believed that Governor Sani had capitalized on the existential frosty relationship between El-Rufai and President Bola Tinubu to say ‘ To your tents, O Israel’.
Indeed, ‘There are no permanent enemies, and no permanent friends, only permanent interests’.
