A resident doctor at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Oluwafemi Rotifa, has reportedly passed away due to exhaustion from stress,
He had reportedly worked non-stop for 72 hours at the hospital’s emergency unit.
The deceased doctor, who was popularly called Femoski by colleagues, had retreated to the call room but reportedly collapsed and was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit, where efforts to resuscitate him failed.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the late Dr Rotifa, a former President of the Port Harcourt University Medical Students’ Association, had recently been registered with the UK General Medical Council, awaiting relocation for placement abroad.
President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, Dr. Tope Osundara, has described his death as preventable while blaming it on the overburdened health system and chronic manpower shortages.
‘He was the only doctor on duty in the emergency room and had been on call for 72 hours. The overuse of manpower and exhaustion killed him. This was a death on duty’ Osundara said-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us? Do you want us to cover your event or programme?
