
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that 19, 548 of the 52, 013 people that sought to get on the electoral register during the just concluded Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise in Edo state were disqualified because of their involvement in double registration.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned the commission’s education officer in the state, Mr Timidi Wariowei, disclosed this during the Media and Stakeholder Summit held in Benin which had as its theme, ‘Roadmap to Credible, Transparent and Peaceful Election in Edo State’ and was organized by the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He said the commission discovered this through the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
Wariowei also disclosed that the commission had increased the polling units in the state from 2,627 to 4,519 to make elections seamless .
He urged journalists in the state to cooperate with the commission to ensure peaceful and credible elections in Edo state while asking them to desist from the temptation to announce election results while on election monitoring exercise.
Edo state Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, who was represented by the command’s head of operations , James Chu, said the state citizens must check their excesses as they plan for the forthcoming elections.
