Easter: Sultan Congratulates Christians, Urges CAN To Help Stop Pastors From Engaging In Hate Speech

The President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs , who is also the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III , has stated the need for the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Daniel Okoh to partner with the NSCIA in putting a stop to hate speeches and discouraging pastors and imams from desecrating their pulpits through political partisanship.
The sultan in a statement issued by the Deputy Secretary-General, NSCIA, Prof. Salisu Shehu, congratulated CAN leaders and the entire Christians in Nigeria on the occasion of the 2023 Easter celebration.

The statement noted that as a religious festival commemorating a significant landmark in Christianity, Easter serves as a springboard for spiritual renewal, religious re-awakening and a general rebirth.
‘It is our hope and prayer that this spirit of re-awakening and rebirth will continue to define our national course especially as we look forward to a new leadership in Nigeria.
As a people of faith united by our father, Abraham, the recent history of our dear nation and faith communities is being threatened by the machinations of politicians.
These digressions can only be attributed to the handiwork of the devil, whose guile is ultimately weak indeed (Qur’an 4:47).
Easter serves as another opportunity to redirect our attention to our shared values and ideals of fasting, love, prayer, penance and cooperation.
The Nigerian Muslim Ummah wishes you many happy returns of the seasons. We also wish you and ourselves a renewed commitment to holiness and righteousness to the glory of God and the greatness of our beloved country’ the statement said.
In separate statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Monday the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kwara state Council, has also felicitated Christian faithful in the country , especially members of the chapel, who are Christians, on the occasion of the 2023 Easter celebration.

‘We are also expressing gratitude to esteemed members for their cooperation and support as we take care of the affairs of the Chapel.
