Edo 2024: Deputy Governor Runs Into Brick wall As Senator Oshiomole Says APC Won’t Serve As ‘Rehab Center’

Edo state Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, who was said to be planning to leave the PDP for APC ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled to hold in the state next year, would definitely have his former political leader, Senator Adams Oshiomhole standing as a brick wall going by the development recorded on Thursday.
Oshiomole, who is Governor Gofwin Obaseki’s immediate predecessor and currently represents Edo North in the senate, has declared that the APC ‘is not a rehabilitation centre for failed, disgruntled and disloyal politicians’.
Obaseki and Shuaib were political godsons of Senator Adams Oshiomole but they parted ways ahead of the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election.
Oshiomole ,who was then the APC National Chairman, had ensured that the governor was disqualified and stopped from getting renominated while Osagie Ize-Iyamu got the mandate to run on the party’s ticket.
Obaseki left the APC for PDP in June 2020 and his deputy, who is Oshiomole’s kinsman, also followed suit.
Governor Obaseki had told journalists during the visit of Edo North leaders to the Government House, Benin city, on Monday that the deputy governor has been holding meetings with APC bigwigs both at the national and state levels.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Oshiomole, while talking to journalists in Benin city during his condolence visit to the family of the late Esogban of Benin kingdom, Chief David Edebiri, on Thursday however made it clear that the APC is a no-go area for Shaibu adding that he had not seen where a court passes a judgment based on suspicion.
‘About somebody going to court to complain based on suspicion that he was about to be impeached by the state House of Assembly, I don’t know how court adjudicates over suspicion. I hear someone is trying to run to the APC. Let me say this, the APC is not a rehabilitation centre for failed politicians.
Those of us in APC are satisfied the way we are; we are happy to be in opposition. I want to say we are not about to receive people who are coming because they have lost out. I want to say no to IDP in the APC’ the senator said.
He also advised political office holders to be loyal to their principal, noting that he can never support disloyalty.
‘My advice is, those who are having challenges should learn how to respect their bosses. I also advise people that anybody you work with, be loyal to him.
Many of you will attest to the fact that my deputy was interested in succeeding me when I was the governor, but I didn’t support him and he didn’t take me to court. And if there are people whose sole aim is to profit from crisis, such persons cannot get my support’ he added.
‘It would be nice if my clan produces the next governor of Edo state, but Nigeria doesn’t work that way. Based on the principle of fairness, it would be good for other zones to produce the next governor of the state’ he also submitted while commenting on Shaibu’s plans to succeed his boss-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
