Edo 2024 Guber: Philip Shaibu Announces Defection To APC, Kneels Before Senator Oshiomole
Mr Philip Shaibu, who was impeached by Edo state House of Assembly on April 8, but got reinstated via a court ruling a few days ago, has announced his defection from PDP to the APC.
Recall that Mr. Marvellous Godwins Omobayo had emerged as Shaibu’s replacement after his impeachment in April. Shaibu had been Governor Godwin Obaseki’s deputy since 2016.
The relationship between Obaseki and Philip had become frosty since the beginning of 2023 ,and the strained relationship had not gotten straightened .
Governor Godwin Obaseki had deepened rift with Mr. Philip Shaibu since last year by directing that his press corps should be disbanded while requests for media coverage of his activities should be done through the Ministry of Communication and Orientation. He had also made him stay away from the Government House , Benin city sequel to the relocation of his office.
The new office located at No 7 Dennis Osadebey Avenue, had served as office of the Edo state Public Procurement Office which was inaugurated by former governor Adams Oshiomhole, on December 16, 2014.
Obaseki and Shuaib were political godsons of Senator Adams Oshiomole but they parted ways with him ahead of the September 19, 2020, gubernatorial election.
Oshiomole ,who was then the APC National Chairman, had ensured that the governor was disqualified and stopped from getting renominated while Osagie Ize-Iyamu got the mandate to run on the party’s ticket.
Obaseki left the APC for PDP in June 2020 and Philip, who is Oshiomole’s kinsman, also followed suit.
Shaibu had planned to succeed Obaseki but the governor did not welcome the idea of having him as his successor.
Shaibu was later impeached by the State House of Assembly on April 8, 2024.
Mr Philip Shaibu announced his defection to the APC alongside prominent members of the Dan Orbih-led Legacy Group of the PDP in Benin city on Saturday .
‘On behalf of the Legacy Group, I announce our movement to the APC. We have come to add value to the party.
It is time to take back our state. We will not talk too much because action will speak for us. We are not afraid. We are ready to move forward. We, the homeboys, are ready to take our state back through the APC governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa.
We are not troublemakers, but if it comes, we will use it to rub our body, and we move on’ he said.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Shaibu, who got to where the party held a programme in Benin city on Saturday at about 2:08 pm , went straight to kneel down before Senator Adams Oshiomhole, apparently to publicly declare his loyalty to the former governor-
