Edo Varsity Fires 13 Lecturers, Accuses Them Of Getting Involved In Extortion, Sexual Harassment

Ambrose Ali University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo state, has sacked thirteen among lecturers at the institution.

  The affected lecturers were accused of offences including  falsification of age, fraud, misconduct, extortion , sexual harassment, among others.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned the institution’s Vice -Chancellor, Prof. Asomwan Sunny Adagbonyin, disclosed this on Monday while presenting the report of the university’s disciplinary committee to members of AAU Special Intervention Team (SIT).

The thirteen lecturers were according to him sacked sequel  to  the recommendations made by  the disciplinary committee which had  found them guilty of the said  offences.

‘The disciplinary committee had given the affected staff  a fair- hearing and recommended that the criminal aspect of what the disengaged staff have done should be reported to the security agents.

It was recommended that a lecturer, who was the head of nursing science, should be sacked after he was found guilty of extorting students of N32,000 and N52,000’ he said.

The VC further disclosed that an Associate Professor and a lecturer were dismissed for collecting unapproved levy from students while another lecturer, who was accused of sexual harassment, was also dismissed.

‘The lecturer claimed to have only made advances, but he was at the church attended by the girl in question to plead for forgiveness. The victim has been protected and reassigned to another lecturer’ he added.

Speaking further, Adagbonyin said the affected staff are from the Faculty of Basic Medical Science, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing Department, Engineering Department, Faculty of law, Political Science, as well as the former Director of the University’s Farm.

He noted that out of the 209 disciplinary cases received, the  disciplinary committee had concluded 132 of the cases, representing 63 per cent while 77 cases representing 37 per cent are  still pending-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
