House officers at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island on Wednesday took to the streets of Lagos to make their displeasure known over a recent development at the health facility.
A House Officer, Doctor Ovwaere Diaso, had in an incident recorded on August 1 sequel to elevator failures ,suffered multiple traumatic injuries after becoming trapped in the lift.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Ovwaere , a product of Babcock University, had ordered food online and after receiving a call from the dispatch rider entered the lift at the hospital but sadly found herself falling from the 10th floor.
It took almost one hour before they could pull the deceased doctor from the debris and there was no blood available to resuscitate her.
The protesting house officers while chanting ‘all we are saying, give us justice’ also carried placards with inscriptions including ‘The system is rigged against young doctors’.
Until her death, Diaso, had two weeks left to complete her housemanship .
The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Lagos state chapter, has directed all doctors working at the three government hospitals in the state to embark on an indefinite strike.
The association has also declared a five-day mourning period and asked doctors at other government-owned hospitals in the state to scale down activities to mourn Diaso.
The hospitals where doctors would be embarking on indefinite strike are the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos; Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos, and the Massey Street Children’s Hospital, Lagos.
The NMA has also called for investigation of Diasco’s death while adding that anyone found culpable should be punished.
The association also pointed fingers at the Manager of Lagos state Infrastructure Management Agency Adenike Adekambi-Team@orientactualmags.com
