Emefiele Has Told Me 500, 1,000 Naira Notes Remain ‘Legal Tender’-Gov Soludo
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has asked commercial banks in the country to dispense old naira notes and accept them as deposits from their customers.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra state, who had once headed the nation’s apex bank , disclosed this on Monday adding that tellers at the commercial banks are to generate the codes for deposits while noting that there is no limit to the number of times an individual or company can make such deposits.
Soludo said the governor of CBN had given this directive during the Bankers’ Committee meeting held on Sunday, March 12 2023.
‘The governor, Dr Godwin Emefiele, personally confirmed the above to me during a phone conversation on Sunday night. Residents of Anambra are therefore advised to freely accept and transact their businesses with the old naira notes (N200; N500; and N1,000) as well as the new notes’ Soludo said.
He called on residents of Anambra state to report any commercial bank that refuses to accept the old naira notes while making deposits .
