Eruku Church Attack: Former LG Chairman Akintoba Fatigun Says It’s Devastating, Unacceptable
Mr. Akintoba Fatigun, a former chairman of Ekiti Local Government, has strongly condemned the latest bandit attack on Eruku, a community in the local government, describing this as a painful tragedy that has further exposed the alarming insecurity in Kwara State.
Mr Fatigun in a statement he issued in Ilorin and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Wednesday noted that he is deeply disturbed by the incident that has left some residents injured and abducted.
The Egbe/Eruku/Obbo-ile road, he added, has for many years now remained a ‘terror zone’ with criminal elements operating freely while the state government has allegedly failed to provide adequate protection for the people.
‘This incident is devastating and unacceptable. Our people cannot continue to live and travel in fear. The Egbe/Eruku/Obbo-ile axis has always been a known danger spot, yet nothing concrete has been done. The Kwara State Government under Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq must rise to its responsibilities’ he said.
The former LG chairman also criticized the governor for not allegedly leveraging his position as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) to attract security support, peace, and development to the state.
‘This is the time for the governor to use his national influence as NGF Chairman to safeguard Kwara, restore peace, and bring development, not to preside over the absenteeism and empty governance that our people are witnessing today’ he added.
Mr Fatigun emphasized that the safety of citizens must remain the top priority of a responsible government, insisting that Kwara State cannot afford to leave its communities at the mercy of bandits.
He commiserated with the Owa of Eruku and the families of the victims while offering prayers for healing and divine comfort and also praying for the safe and speedy return of the abducted victims.
‘My heart is with the people of Eruku. I pray for strength for the affected families and for the safe return of our abducted brothers and sisters. Our communities deserve protection, not neglect. It is time for a decisive action’ he said.
Mr Fatigun also called for immediate deployment of security agents, improved intelligence coordination, and long-term interventions to stop criminals from exerting control in the area-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
