Fashola, Ambode, Gov Sanwo-Olu Pose For Pictures As They Gather In Honour Of President Tinubu In Lagos

All those who have served as governor of Lagos state since 1999, and the current governor, converged on the Government House , Marina  for the reception held  in honour of President Bola Tinubu on Thursday.

President Tinubu served as   governor of Lagos state between 1999 and 2007.

The event organized by the  Lagos state government was held to mark President Tinubu’s first month in office.

It was the first time an event will bring   Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s predecessors together.

While getting set to leave the Government House, Marina,  in 2015 ,Mr. Babatunde Fashola had associates including the current Deputy Governor ,Mr. Obafemi Hamzat as those he would prefer to have as successor but President Bola Tinubu  eventually  threw his weight behind Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode’s candidacy and he ultimately  became the new  chief executive of the state.

This naturally made Ambode and Fashola lose the opportunity to have a good relationship.

Ahead of the 2019 governorship election, Ambode had sought to get renominated as APC gubernatorial candidate but however lost party nomination to Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and relations between the two Lagos state APC bigwigs naturally got strained . 

Sanwo-Olu did not only win the 2019 Lagos state gubernatorial election but had also later won re-election on March 18, 2023.

Governor  Sanwo-Olu has also  tweeted about  the reception held for the president on Thursday .

‘Today, we hosted a welcome reception for His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It was an absolute honor and delight for me to welcome back to the Centre of Excellence a man whose life, work and legacy remain a guiding light for us all.

Also at the event were my esteemed colleagues from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the leadership of the National Assembly, government functionaries and members of the All Progressive Congress.

Today is an auspicious day as it marks the one-month anniversary of our President’s tenure; a tenure that began with a promise of change and one that is already delivering on that promise’ he wrote.
