Hon Gboyega Aribisogan , who represents Ikole Constituency 1, has been impeached as Speaker of the Ekiti state House of Assembly.
This had come barely one week after his emergence as head of the state legislature.
He had gotten elected as Speaker following the demise of Late Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, who died last month after a short illness.
Hon. Aribisogan had gotten 15 votes while Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba who represents Emure Constituency had 10 votes .
Sources told Team@orientactualmags.com that Adelugba , who was backed by former governor Kayode Fayemi and Governor Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji for the Speakership position had been made to bear the brunt of the former governor’s ‘political sin’.
Ahead of the 2023 General Election, a good number of the lawmakers ,who had sought to retain their parliament seats , had however failed to get party nominations and they had laid the blame for this at Fayemi’s door.
They had thenceforth resolved to frustrate anything that has connection with the former governor.
Fayemi had since fought back and showed his ‘political superiority’ and it was easy to convince the governor that allowing dissidents to be in control of the state house of assembly will be too dangerous as they may impeach him.
During plenary session on Monday, Gboyega Aribisogan was not only impeached but also suspended indefinitely.
Fayemi’s preferred candidate, Olubunmi Adelugba was reportedly elected as new Speaker by 17 members.
Aribisogan was suspended along with 6 others ;Tajudeen Akingbolu , Goke Olajide, Yemisi Ayokunle , Adeyemi Raphael Ajibade, Kemi Balogun and Tope Ogunleye.
The lawmakers were suspended ‘for compromising the process of the election that produced Aribisogan as Speaker on November 15, among other alleged unpatriotic and unparliamentarily conduct capable of threatening the peace of the state’.
They were consequently barred from the vicinity of the House of Assembly Complex for 145 days for their acts which were contrary to the provisions of the House Standing Rules and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Olubunmi now has an achievement under her belt -the first female Speaker in Ekiti state.
The new Speaker thanked her colleagues for finding her worthy to be elected as Head of the state legislature promising not to take the trust and confidence reposed in her for granted.
She later announced that the House of Assembly had adjourned sine die (indefinitely)- Team@orientactualmags.com
