Professor Folasade Ogunsola has been named as next Vice- Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Eight people that had sought to become the next Vice -Chancellor of the institution are Abayomi Akinyeye , Department of History; Folasade Ogunsola , College of Medicine; Mathew Ilori, Department of Microbiology , Adeyinka Adekunle , Department of Botany, Imran Smith, Faculty of Law; Timothy Nubi, Department of Estate Management , and Ayo Olowe of the Department of Finance.

Grace Alele-Williams, a Professor of Mathematics Education, who was the first Nigerian woman to receive a doctorate degree, was also the nation’s first female vice-chancellor.
She was appointed as Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin in 1985.
Born in 1958, Ogunsola is a professor of Medical Microbiology and a consultant clinical microbiologist and infection control at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
She specializes in disease control, particularly HIV/AIDS. Ogunsola had served as provost of College of Medicine and was also the Deputy Vice -Chancellor (Development Services) between 2017 and 2021.
She was elected as acting Vice- Chancellor by the university’s senate on 24 August 2020.
