Former Oyo LP Guber Candidate Discusses Proposed Chieftaincy Law Amendments During Meeting With  Speaker Ogundoyin In Ibadan

Following the press release he issued earlier in the week in respect of the proposed amendments to the Oyo state chieftaincy law which had attracted the interest of indigenes of the state, Hon. Tawfiq Akinwale, who was the Labour Party candidate in the gubernatorial election held on March 18 2023,  has met with the Speaker of Oyo state House of Assembly, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin to discuss the issue.

Akinwale visited the Speaker’s office in Ibadan on Thursday to discuss the issue at his (Ogundoyin) instance.

 During the visit, the Speaker had a fuitful discussion with Hon. Tawfiq Akinwale while  assuring him of a credible public hearing that will help to effectively address the matter.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that the press release calling for a public hearing and urging caution on chieftaincy matters had triggered the action of the legislature having generated huge reactions in public spaces.

Hon. Tawfiq Tayo Akinwale seized the opportunity to commiserate with the Speaker on the demise of his mother , Chief Mrs. Tina Ogundoyin describing her as a great woman and a friend that will be sorely missed.

While assuring the former Labour Party guber candidate of a public hearing that will be credible, the Speaker  has also urged him (Akinwale) to get involved in the proceedings.

Hon. Tawfiq Tayo Akinwale had earlier explained that the matter ‘ is under customary law’ and cannot be reviewed by the State House of Assembly. 

He however reminded the Speaker that a two-thirds vote is required to approve any proposal that may be made available to them.

Hon. Tawfiq Tayo Akinwale appreciated the Speaker for the warm reception and urged him to use his good offices to address the situation cautiously noting that if the sitting governor had though taken action with good intentions, another person might later abuse the legislation.

The Speaker promised to look into the matter and urged Hon.
