Former Rep Farouk Lawan Released From Jail After Spending 5 Years Behind Bars
Following the expiration of his sentence, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Farouk Lawan, has regained his freedom.
Recall that trouble began for the former federal lawmaker when Justice Angela Otaluka of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court declared him convicted of bribery in June 2021.
He was declared guilty of receiving a N500,000 bribe while serving as the chairman of the ad-hoc committee set up by the House of Representatives to investigate fuel subsidy fraud in 2012.
He though got a seven-year sentence but was however lucky to have this reduced to five years by the Court of Appeal.
The Supreme Court had also upheld his conviction a few months ago.
