Former Rep Zakari Mohammed Offers Solutions To Nigeria’s Problems, Asks Citizens To Demand 6 Things From President Tinubu

Former Rep Zakari Mohammed Offers Solutions To Nigeria’s Problems, Asks Citizens To Demand 6 Things From President Tinubu

A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Zakari Mohammed on Monday gave his take on the current state of affairs in the country while also suggesting ways to solve the nation’s problems.

Hon Zakari Mohammed, also a one-time Kwara State Commissioner for Energy, in a statement he issued in Abuja and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Monday night noted that rather than engaging in ‘party switching’ like other politicians have done ahead of the 2027 General Election, he has chosen to not only stay in the opposition but also speak truth to power.

‘ At a time like this — when political transfer windows have opened and many are crossing over to the ruling party in search of appointments, favours, and personal comfort — I am fully aware that what I am doing is not fashionable. In moments when others choose the soft path of convenience, only a few remain in the opposition, weathering the storm of hard conditions and non-juicy positions. But I have chosen this lonely path because of principle, conviction, and loyalty to truth.

I speak not because it is easy, but because it is right. I speak because governments will come and go, but Nigeria must remain before any virile politics can be played. I speak because I am Zakari — a man determined to show gratitude to the nation that offered me the opportunities that shaped my life’s journey. I owe Nigeria honesty, courage, and service. This country must survive — and not just survive, but become better, fairer, and stronger’ he said.

Revisiting the issue of the removal of petrol subsidy, Hon Zakari Mohammed faulted the approach adopted by the President Bola Tinubu administration.

‘Nigerians were told that the painful removal of fuel subsidy was necessary to save the economy and free resources for development and security. Yet, after removing this subsidy, the government continues to borrow heavily — with little transparency about interest rates, repayment plans, timelines, or the specific projects these massive loans are meant to fund.

To remove subsidy on a product that affects every aspect of our lives — transport, food, livelihoods, education, and healthcare — while still borrowing recklessly is not reform. It is economic cruelty. It is reckless. And it is unpatriotic’ he submitted.

Cautioning against nepotism and favouritism, the former federal lawmaker noted that ‘no nation can stand when key and sensitive positions are increasingly dominated by a narrow circle’ while adding that ‘unity is not declared; it is demonstrated through fairness, inclusion, balance, and justice. Nigerians must feel represented, not alienated’.

Hon Zakari Mohammed also said ‘opposition parties must be allowed to thrive in a true representative democracy.

‘They must not be gagged, intimidated, harassed, or suppressed by appointees who act on what appears to be the president’s body language of silent consent. When opposition voices are crushed, democracy itself is under attack’ he added.

That was not all, the former federal lawmaker has also asked Nigerians to demand 6 things from the President Bola Tinubu administration and urge its full implementation without delay.

President Bola Tinubu

‘1. A total restructuring of Nigeria’s security architecture based on intelligence, accountability, community participation, and a decisive action;

2. Full transparency in borrowing, public expenditure, interest rates of loans being taken, obligations, repayment plans, subsidy savings, and transparent expenditures;

3. An uncompromising, non-selective war against corruption, irrespective of party, tribe, or religion;

4. Fair, balanced, and inclusive appointments that reflect the diversity of Nigeria;

5. A strong, independent National Assembly that serves the people — not the executive; and

6. A political environment where opposition parties can operate freely without persecution’ he said-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
