From Now On, Call Me ‘Alaafin Of Iwo’, Not ‘Oluwo Of Iwo’-Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi

A prominent traditional ruler in Osun State, the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has announced a new ‘title’.

He has submitted that he would henceforth like to be called ‘Alaafin of Iwo’.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the Iwo monarch made this known during the visit of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade to his palace on Tuesday.

‘Alaafin of Iwo’, who described the Alaafin’s title as supreme to all other traditional titles in Yorubaland, noted that the title was originally meant for descendants of Oduduwa.

While thanking Alaafin of Oyo for the visit, he added that it would strengthen relationship between the two towns.

‘I don’t know any other title in Yorubaland that is superior to the Alaafin.

Alaafin will continue to be Alaafin because that is the title that Oramiyan adopted and I will also adopt the same.

Henceforth, I will also want to be called ‘Alaafin of Iwo’ and we will inform the government about this’ he said.

Oyo will according to him witness peace and unprecedented development under Oba Owoade cognizant of the monarch’s humility and exposure .

This is the third time that Oba Abdulrosheed would be announcing new titles.

He had at different times announced ‘Emperor’ and ‘Emir of Iwo’ tittles.

Oba Owoade, whose royal entourage include the queen consort, Abiwumi, and top Oyo chiefs, said he visited Iwo to thank Oba Abdulrasheed  for attending his coronation ceremony in April this year.

‘I came to see Oluwo because he was at my coronation ceremony in April.

Even when my name was announced as Alaafin-elect, Oluwo called to congratulate me.
It is also good to come around to pay him a courtesy visit’  he said.

Oba Owoade, who spoke in Yoruba, said his immediate  predecessor, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, had a good relationship with Iwo, hence, the need to sustain this.

‘Iwo and Oyo have been enjoying a good relationship for years now, even with my predecessor and I want that relationship to continue’ he said.

The Oyo monarch also urged other traditional rulers in Iwo to continue to work with Oba Abdulrasheed with an open mind-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
