Gov Abdulrazaq Accused Of Mismanaging NG-CARES Programme In Kwara

Gov Abdulrazaq Accused Of Mismanaging NG-CARES Programme In Kwara

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state has been accused of mismanaging the programme introduced by the Federal Government through which it had sought   to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the livelihoods of poor individuals, farmers, vulnerable households, communities among others; the NGCARES.

A group , the Kwara Youth Alliance for Development (KYAD)  in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Sunday by its  president and convener;  Olaoye Oluwatimileyin alleged that  the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq-led government  had siphoned off over 20 million dollars NG-CARES fund targeted at empowering more than three thousand small and medium scale business owners in Kwara state.

The group also alleged that the Kwara State Government had diverted the NG-CARES Fund while deceiving Kwarans by distributing  twenty thousand Naira each to some people while the arrangements made by the FG was for each of the beneficiaries to receive N3.2million Naira .

‘We are appalled by the recent revelation by relevant Senate Committees that  state governments have shortchanged Nigerian youths through fraudulent diversion of the NG-Care fund.

According to the viral video that our organization has studied keenly, it was revealed how some state governors,  including that of Kwara diverted this fund and got it  replaced with petty cash gifts to citizenry.

Under the NG-CARES scheme, each state is allocated $20 million and thousands of small business owners (3,000 to 5,000) were designed to get #3.5 Million Naira each. These small businesses and the names of the owners were to be supplied by state coordinators of NG-CARES, and the Federal Government would capture their data including bank accounts information.

It is, however, unfortunate that Kwara state governments politicized this lofty scheme which is capable of taking 5,000 young people out of poverty.

KYAD watched with disdain as Governor AbdulRahman turned a poverty alleviation programme through which 3,000 to 5,000 young entrepreneurs were to be given #3.2M each as grant to build their businesses to the one that they were given peanuts of #20,000, #15,000, #30,000 each’ the statement said.

The group has therefore asked the Federal Government of Nigeria as well as anti-graft agencies; Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices & Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to look into the allegations while urging Kwarans  not to be intimidated but rather speak up against   attempts to mortgage the future of ‘our teeming young people   by   the current administration’- Team@orientactualmags.com
