Gov Abdulrazaq  Accused Of Surreptitiously Sacking Kwara Hotel Workers…Youth Unemployment Rate Has Increased Under Him -Wahab Oba

Kwara state PDP Campaign Council on Tuesday alleged that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq had failed to keep his word by surreptitiously  sacking  workers at the hospitality outfit owned by the state government; the Kwara Hotel.

The Campaign Council  in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Sholyments Olusegun Olusola, who is the HOD New Media,  quoted a news site that claimed that the state Head of Service,  Mrs Susan Module Oluwole had confirmed the inability of the  state government to have the Kwara Hotel workers integrated into  the state civil service  or agencies like KWARTMA.

It will be recalled that  the state government had in October this year ordered the  closure  of the hospitality outfit  while  a 10-man Steering Committee tasked with refurbishing and bringing it back to life was later inaugurated.

The committee has Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology Hon. Ibrahim Akaje as  Chairman while  Anthony Gana Abu,  who is the Director of Staff Matters, Office of the Head of Service,  was named as  Secretary.

The state government had  also promised to have the workers redeployed to ministries.

Harmony Holdings Ltd had also a few days    later  described as untrue  the media report  that had claimed  that some among the staff of Kwara Hotel had been laid off.

Its Corporate Affairs Unit in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com  had not only  asserted that no worker had been sacked by Harmony Holdings but had   also noted that  the repositioning of the  hospitality outfit was  ‘on course’.

While urging members of the public to disregard  the media report claiming that Kwara Hotel workers had been sacked , Harmony Holdings had also called the said  media report ‘uninformed’, ‘speculative’, ‘malicious’ and ‘one-sided’, adding  that  this  was  done to blacken the image of the state government.

‘With  this firm  promise devoid  of ambiguity,  our party is utterly disappointed to learn of late that the Kwara State Government had secretly reneged  on its  promise by summarily dashing the long time hopes of these poor hotel workers’ Kwara state PDP Campaign Council said on Tuesday..

The statement added that the Head of Service had  according to the news site in question told the worrying hotel staff to stop  hoping to get redeployed to ministries allegedly adding  that Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq  had only made  a mere political statement.

‘This, in summary, indicates that Kwara Hotel staff have been unduly sacked and rendered jobless at a time like this.

Having waited for more than 72hours after this publication, expecting government’s usual rebuttal, which is not forthcoming , we hold that the statement from the HOS is valid and a true position of  things in respect of the decision taken by the Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq- led government, failing, yet again, on its promise, just as the Governor is fond of reneging on his promise but rather takes to media to showcase audio achievements .

If Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, after Kwara Hotel has been ruined on his watch, could not keep to his promise of not disengaging Kwara hotel staff, even when election is just  a few months away , what then should he be trusted with? Why should Kwarans trust a leader with open disregard for his own word again with our mandate in 2023? the statement submitted.

Kwara state PDP Campaign Council also accused Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of failing to fulfill his campaign promises.

‘Abdulrahaman is yet to deliver  with respect to the good governance  he promised the people since coming on board in 2019.  The Otoge  campaigners  had promised  to revive dead companies  like Ile Isana in Ilorin , Okin Biscuit, Offa , Paper Mill at Jebba and a  host of others, so they can provide job opportunities for our teeming young people. .

Today, the reverse is the case , AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq came and sacked more than two thousand 2,000 young teachers duly employed under previous administration,  apart from this , his poor policy also killed Microfinance Banks operation  in the state and this had  made more than 2,000 workers lose their jobs’ the statement said.

Kwara state PDP guber candidate,  Alhaji Shuaib Yaman Abdulahi’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy , Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba in separate statement  made available to Team@orientactualmags.com has also described Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as an undertaker whose only achievement in the state is the destruction of the legacies of his predecessors.

Oba  added that  Governor AbdulRahman has  allegedly gotten youth unemployment rate increased  in the state  rather than creating more jobs.

The governor, he added, had  sacked qualified teachers who were employed legitimately and  had them called  ‘Sunset workers’ . ‘These were young people employed far before the 2019 elections’ he noted.

‘He paralyzed Kwara Express, destroyed Harmony Diagnostic Centre, bastardized the civil service by giving their responsibilities to consultants, he derailed  the gains and vision of KWIRS among other politically and economically wimpy activities’ the statement added.

Oba also said the governor’s decision to convert the Ilorin Airport Cargo Terminal to a  Garment Factory was wrong.

‘This is the same governor who converted the Ilorin Airport Cargo Terminal to a glorified Garment Factory on the land carrying Certificate of Occupancy of Ilorin International Airport, a federal Government agency, rather than putting his tailoring factory elsewhere for the benefit of the people’ he said.

On  the sacked Kwara Hotel workers, Oba promised that a Yaman-led administration will not only rebrand, repackage and reposition the hospitality outfit in line with global best practices of Public Private Partnership, PPP, but will also fully reinstate  and retrain the workers.

‘The entire workforce of the state will be given its deserved pride of place’ Oba affirmed- Team@orientactualmags.com
