Gov AbdulRazaq, Gov Sanwo-Olu Jointly Inaugurate Overpass In Lagos
Lagos state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara state , who is also the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), have jointly inaugurated the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line Ikeja Overpass Bridge.
Sanwo-Olu submitted that his administration remains committed to ‘a transport system that is safe, sustainable, integrated, seamless, and with the potential to drive the socio-economic growth and development of the state and indeed Nigeria’.
He also noted that the overpass bridge, the fourth to be inaugurated, signifies his government’s commitment to the safety of the people by developing a permanent solution to the recurring fatal vehicle/train accidents at railway crossings.
“The completion and formal commissioning of this safety infrastructure is a precursor to the commencement of passenger operations of the Red Line, which will be commissioned by our dear President, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the first quarter of next year.
In the last four-and-a-half years of our administration, we have prioritized the implementation of our integrated transportation system under the traffic management and transportation pillar of the THEMES+ agenda.
As a result, we have delivered life-enhancing transport infrastructures, which are making life easier for the average Lagosian.
The LRMT Red Line Rail System, the first phase of which we project will move more than 500,000 passengers daily, stretches over a distance of 27 kilometres from Agbado to Oyingbo, with eight stations at Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and terminates at Oyingbo’ he added.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq ,who has also mentioned this in a post on X on Tuesday , commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for following in the footsteps of his illustrious predecessors.
‘Earlier today, I joined my brother Governor, His Excellency Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, as the Special Guest to commission the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line Ikeja Overpass Bridge. It is another bold signature project of the Lagos State Government, and I am honoured to have been invited by His Excellency to commission it.
This important bridge has been built with the understanding of the Federal Government to separate vehicular/pedestrian and train traffic. I congratulate His Excellency the Governor, the government of Lagos State, and the people of the state on the feat.
The project, like others across the country, including our own Kwara, again supports the fact that development is a process, and not a destination. Between 1999 and now, we have seen consistent and impressive improvements in infrastructural development across sectors nationwide, including those that support mass transit system such as train. The Ikeja Overpass and similar projects like it are a bold testimony in this respect.
But particularly worthy of note is the huge advantage of policy consistency that we have seen in Lagos. Over the years, successive administrations in the state have built on one another’s successes and executed projects that strengthen the leading role of Lagos in not just the Nigerian economy but also in Africa. This is largely the legacy of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. In other words, Lagos has been a beneficiary of bold and progressive visions, built around people’s welfare.
I believe this is worth emulating across the country for faster socioeconomic growth. Regardless of party affiliations and individual differences, developmental agenda should be people-focused. I therefore commend His Excellency Governor Sanwo-Olu for following in the footsteps of his illustrious predecessors.
The project is not just another bold step in the development of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit, it is in fact a progressive effort to improve life expectancy of the people by seriously curtailing the often-fatal accidents involving trains and vehicles and the risks posed to human lives.
Originally started in 2020, the beautiful delivery of this project of national importance has justified the time and the resources spent executing it’ he submitted-Team@orientactualmags.com
