Gov Adeleke Alleges Assassination Attempt As Argument Over ‘Seating Plan’ Stops Him From Observing Eid Prayer In Osogbo, Says Masterminds ‘ll Be Arrested
Arguments over where dignitaries should take their seats at the Eid praying ground, Osogbo, stopped Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state from joining others to observe the 1444 AH eid -li-adha prayer on Wednesday.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the dramatis personae were Governor Adeleke, former senator Ajibola Basiru and Alhaji Tunde Badmus.
The governor’s aides reportedly clashed with that of Dr. Ajibola Basiru over ‘seating plan’ at the eid praying ground.
Barrister Basiru had according to a source arrived at the praying ground early and he had taken his seat, trouble however began when the governor’s aides asked him to move from where he was seated to the second row because it was a place reserved for the governor.
The former senator had reportedly stood his ground and refused to leave where he was seated and while this was going on, Governor Adeleke had arrived in company of aides and associates and he was welcomed to the eid praying ground by a prominent Osogbo indigene, Alhaji Tunde Badmus, who is the Asiwaju Musulumi of South West , Edo and Delta states.
The governor could not however join the front row because the disagreement over the ‘seating plan’ had not been resolved and he later left the eid praying ground.
The eid praying ground incident had since resulted in a tense atmosphere in the state capital.
It began with rumours that the governor had ordered that former senator Basiru Ajibola and Asiwaju Tunde Badmus should be arrested , security presence has increased with soldiers patrolling the streets of Osogbo.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Wednesday alleged that the governor had actually escaped an assassination attempt.
‘Osun state governor today escaped an assassination attempt at the Osogbo Eid praying ground as some hoodlums led by some APC chieftains took over the governor’s section and beat up the PDP House of Representatives member representing Osogbo federal constituency, Hon. Moruf Gangaria.
Governor Adeleke arrived at the venue with his team amidst ongoing rumpus. The governor was encircled and the security personnel practically smuggled him out of the place.
Armed thugs were seen with dangerous weapons. On two occasions, the governor could not access the prayer point.
Top Osogbo PDP leaders were molested and beaten up.
The governor has escaped from the scene as at the time of filling this report without getting hurt’ the statement had said.
In another statement issued about three hours later, the governor’s spokesman, Mr. Olawale Rasheed noted that Adeleke has urged calm while thanking God for protecting him and members of his team.
He has according to Olawale directed security agencies to ensure the arrest of masterminds of the incident.
‘My good people of Osun, I appeal for calm and I urge us to continue to celebrate the Sallah festival in peace. I am safe by the special grace of God.
I have directed security agencies to arrest those behind the incident and make them face the wrath of the law. The Commissioner of Police has been directed to arrest those involved no matter how highly placed’ he was quoted to have submitted.
‘The state Government has condemned the orchestrated attack on the governor by stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress at the eid praying ground. Members of the public will recall an earlier security alert on an evil plot to destabilize the peace and stability of Osun state.
The government particularly notes with shock and surprise the role played by former Senator Ajibola Bashiru who took over the space reserved for the governor at the eid praying ground. All efforts to get the former Senator to vacate the space proved abortive.
PDP members, who agitated for respect for the office of the governor were beaten up. The governor had met a scene of chaos on arrival at the eid praying ground for the eid prayer.
The government was even more shocked that thugs armed to the teeth were spotted all over the eid praying ground with security information that they were imported to eliminate the governor and key government functionaries.
The governor, who arrived at the venue hoping to observe the Eid prayer, was practically surrounded by armed thugs, prompting security men to escort him to his car jeep.
For the second time, the governor attempted to enter the eid praying ground but the encirclement by armed thugs was already visible. It was at that point that the governor had to leave the eid praying ground.
The governor is safe and now at home receiving guests and leaders from all walks of life’ the statement added.
In a telephone interview with Team@orientactualmags.com , Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Mexican States with concurrent accreditation to Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama,, Hon Rauf Adejare Bello, who noted that he had left the country for Mexico after attending President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration in Abuja, said it was though not a good development that an incident of such nature got recorded at an eid praying
ground, the governor ought to have however attended the eid prayer in Ede cognizant of recent developments that had featured accusations and counteraccusations in respect of Osogbo’s interests. He ought to have considered the current mood of Osogbo.
This is not the first time that there would be a disagreement over ‘seating plan’ in Osogbo which would involve Osun state political bigwigs.
It had happened during the 2006 Oroki Day which was organized by the Osogbo Descendants’ Union.
The riotous 2006 Oroki Day held at the Osogbo City Hall , Igbonna Road , had Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Chief Peter Babalola and the then Chairman of Osogbo local government Alhaji Liadi Gbadamosi as dramatis personae- Team@orientactualmags.com
