Gov Adeleke Declares 3-Day Education Summit Open In Osogbo, Says WAEC ‘ll Rank Osun Among Top 10 States On His Watch

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state has promised to ensure that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) ranks the state among top ten in the country before the end of his first term .

Adeleke was inaugurated as 6th governor of Osun state on November 27, 2022.

Governor Adeleke also said the state under his leadership will take necessary steps to ensure that the state reclaims past glory in external examinations which will help to produce sound minds as future leaders of the State of the Living Spring.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Governor Adeleke said this in Osogbo on Tuesday while giving his speech during the  opening  ceremony of the  3-day education summit  organized by the state government.

The summit was attended by major stakeholders in the education sector  including parents, teachers, guardians, artisans, market women and men, proprietors of schools, members of old students’ associations, revered members of board of governors of institutions , royal fathers among others.

The Adeleke administration came up with the idea of holding the Education Summit  to revamp and reposition  education sector in the state for better results, and the governor , who was represented by his Deputy , Prince Kola Adewusi, has promised to implement the outcomes of the summit to the letter.

He said his administration has identified education as a common heritage that good governance could bestow on its teeming citizenry, hence the resolve to get it right.

The governor noted that school leavers in the state shall apart  from having excellent results also be proficient in the use of native language and native intelligence after the three- day summit .

He said the theme of the summit, ‘Getting it Right and Revamping Education Sector in Osun State’ was carefully chosen because the state must really get it right for a better future.

‘You will recall that on my inauguration as your governor some nine months ago, I entered into social contract with the good people of Osun state to fast- track the much- needed paradigm shift from the hitherto failures to remarkable successes in learning outcomes and an improved performance index in public examinations rating.

I wish to say it here for the umpteenth time that Osun state rejects in its entirety the performance rating index in public examinations that puts us on 30s and above in a nation that has 36 states, who have we really offended?’ the governor asked.

Chairman of the Planning Committee, Professor Oyesoji Aremu  expressed confidence that the summit will definitely yield  expected results while affirming the desire and political will of the Adeleke administration to ensure that the recommendations of the summit are fully implemented.

Dr David Fakeye, a lecturer at the University of Ibadan, who gave a keynote speech, called for the improvement of intellectual qualities of the teachers, noting that the quality of teaching cannot be higher than the quality of teachers teaching the students.

In his welcome address, the state Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole commended the governor for giving the ministry the go-ahead to organize the Education Summit which will according to him make things better in the education sector.

He described this as a huge testament to the fact that the governor ‘is determined to truly move the state education sector forward and ensure a good future for the state’.

‘The Ministry of Education is confident that there would be valuable contributions from the participants and the good people of the state to make it worthwhile and things will work better’ he said.

The three -day education summit continues tomorrow, Wednesday, August 23, 2023, with the different sessions held on ‘day one’ of the summit conducted in Yoruba language-Team@orientactualmags.comDo you have any information you wish to share with us?
