A few hours after taking office on Sunday, Governor Ademola Adeleke took steps to give effect to the court ruling sacking local government chairmen and councilors in the state.
It will be recalled that Justice Ayo-Nathaniel Emmanuel of the Federal High Court , Osogbo, had on Friday declared the local government elections conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) on October 15, 2022 as illegal, null and void, adding that it was not conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act of 2022.
The court further ordered the local government chairmen and councilors that were declared as winners of the local government elections in question to vacate the respective local government secretariats and offices with immediate effect.
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Osun state chapter and the state APC had however in separate statements submitted that they would be appealing the ruling.
Governor Adeleke , who had marked the start of the four-year term on Sunday by presenting himself as a revolutionary leader, had since directed most senior civil servants at all the Local Government Councils, the Area Office, LCDAs and ACDAs in the state to take charge of the affairs of their respective Councils with immediate effect.
The governor , who announced this in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his spokesman, Mr Olawale Rasheed, noted that this was done in compliance with the Federal High Court ruling sacked those he described as ‘purportedly elected Local Government Chairmen and Councilors’- Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
