Gov Adeleke To Osun CP: Stop 2022 LG Chairmen From Engaging In Illegal Collection Of Taxes, Forgery

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has directed the state Commissioner of Police to stop imposition of illegal taxes on market operators in the state and the alleged forgery of council documents by some among the 2022 LG chairmen, who he called ‘sacked Yes/No council chairmen’.
He has described the development as inimical to sustenance of law and order at the grassroots level.
The governor has also asked the police Commissioner to invite the affected council chairmen for questioning accusing them of falsifying council documents, collecting dubious revenue through illegal documents and imposing and collecting illegal revenue from market operators.

The governor in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed cited various reports of such illegalities especially from Boripe local government, noting that such activities not only breached clear provisions of the law but also constitute an affront to the judiciary to which the APC has filed an appeal over the sacking of the 2022 LG chairmen.
The governor in his directive to the Commissioner of Police cited Boripe Local Government where the 2022 LG chairman inaugurated a revenue taskforce that allegedly forged and printed out some council documents purportedly for internally generated revenue (IGR).
The governor noted that the same illegal taskforce officials have begun to issue fake documents like local government Identification letters, market revenue receipts etc. to members of the public, directing the police commissioner to intervene before any breakdown of law and order.
Governor Adeleke has further directed his Special Adviser on Security to liaise with the police Commissioner for the implementation of the directive while expressing shock at the brazen imposition of hardship and pains on the people through illegal activities.
‘Is this the reason for illegal occupation of local government secretariats? Is this all about extorting the people and imposing pains and suffering on them? This should stop forthwith.
We alert the public to this new round of illegality on a subjudiced matter. I have directed the police authorities accordingly. Forging council documents and collecting revenue illegally are punishable offences before the law. Any person caught in such an act will face the full wrath of the law’ the statement quoted the governor as saying.
Recall that Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), the state PDP, the state APC, and other stakeholders in the State of the Living Spring had since February this year disagreed sharply on how to interpret the ruling that was delivered by judges of the Court of Appeal, Akure Division on February 10,2025.
The court ruling was on the outcome of the local government elections conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) on October 15, 2022, and its connection with the local government elections held on February 22, 2025, which had since produced a new set of LG chairmen.
Recall also that Justice Ayo-Nathaniel Emmanuel of the Federal High Court , Osogbo, had on November 26, 2022, declared the 2022 local government elections illegal, null and void, adding that it was not conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act of 2022.
Recall also that the interpretation of the court ruling of February 10, 2025, had however sparked controversy and it has created a scenario that has the 2022 LG chairmen and the 2025 LG chairmen laying claim to the chairmanship seats-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
