Gov Akeredolu Dies After Prolonged Illness…He Was A ‘Conscientious Politician’ –NGF Chairman …Lucky Aiyedatiwa Lives Up To His Name
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and a one-time president of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, who had been ill for some months now, is dead.
Akeredolu, who died at 67., had embarked on medical vacation on June 7, 2023, and he did not return to the country until September.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that whilst Akeredolu, who became the Chief Executive of Ondo state on February 24, 2017, was away in Germany, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the acting governor, had mounted a rearguard action to keep his head above water and avoid having himself and others being at loggerheads with those promoting ‘shadow government’.
Those who exercised power behind the scenes had according to a source made everyone subservient to the shadow government and they had subverted the entire state to its vice-like grip.
Following the governor’s return to the country in September, the house of assembly had initiated impeachment proceedings against Aiyedatiwa and this had worsened matters in respect of the strained relationship between the Deputy Governor and those promoting ‘shadow government’ .
Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, a former commissioner at the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, who is currently the acting governor of Ondo state , is expected to be sworn in as governor of the Sunshine state today.
He has lived up to his name ‘Aiyedatiwa’, ‘the world now belongs to us’ .
Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa became the Deputy Governor of the Sunshine State on February 24 , 2021 after Governor Rotimi Akeredolu won re-election.
He had become Akeredolu’s running mate after the former Deputy Governor, Mr. Agboola Ajayi left the APC for PDP and later the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) ahead of the gubernatorial election that was held on October 10,2020..
In the meanwhile, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara state, who is also the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), has expressed sadness on the death of Governor Olurotimi Akeredolu (SAN), describing him as an exceptional statesman who made indelible marks in public service.
‘My heartfelt condolences go to the Progressives Governors’ Forum, the government and people of Ondo state, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), as well as the immediate family of my dear brother and colleague, His Excellency Olurotimi Akeredolu SAN .
A frontline lawyer and conscientious politician of progressive bent, His Excellency would be remembered for his courage, patriotism, and immeasurable contribution to the constitutional and sociopolitical development of Nigeria. As painful as his exit is to all of us, we take solace in his fine legacies as a gentleman and statesman. We ask God to repose his soul and look after his family’ AbdulRazaq submitted in a statement he issued on Wedsday-Team@orientactualmags.com
