Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has asked the parliament to extend his medical leave   .

Akeredolu noted in the said  letter that  his  decision to seek an extension of his medical leave was sequel to ‘medical advice’ stating the need for him to take a good rest for ‘full recovery’.

The Speaker noted that the governor’s action was in line with Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

Oladiji, who expressed appreciation to God that the governor has had a speedy recovery, added that he hopes that Akeredolu would soon resume duty.

Akeredolu, in the letter in question, said  the Deputy Governor,  Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will ‘continue to act as governor until there is a written declaration to the contrary’.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, a  Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a one-time president of the Nigerian Bar Association,  had been ill for some months now.

He has been on medical vacation since June 7, 2023, and his deputy, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa,  had been the acting governor of  the state.

Akeredolu became the Chief Executive of the Sunshine State  on February 24,  2017.

He had in his previous letter that was dated June 5, noted that he would be resuming duty last week, precisely, July 6.

‘Despite his speedy recovery, we strongly urge our dear governor to prioritize rest and complete recuperation before resuming duty.

We understand his inclination to resume work promptly due to his strong work ethic, but we implore him to allow himself more time to rest and fully recover’  Comrade Oladele Amoko, NLC Chairperson; Olapade Ademola, JNC Chairman, and Clement Fatuase, TUC Chairman, also submitted in a joint statement on Monday.

‘We extend our heartfelt gratitude to God for His unwavering grace and healing bestowed upon our dedicated governor.
