Gov Bagudu Loses Senate Bid As Gov Tambuwal’s Political Future Hangs In The Balance

Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero has been declared winner of the Kebbi Central senate election held on Saturday.
He would therefore be retaining his parliament seat this year.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned the Returning Officer for the Kebbi Central senate election, Professor Abbas Yusuf, who announced the election results, noted that Senator Aliero of the PDP had 126,588 votes while the APC candidate, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu got 92,389 votes.
Kebbi Central comprises eight local governments ; Gwandu, Bunza, Aliero, Maiyama, Koko-Besse, Jega, Kalgo and Birnin Kebbi.
It will be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had stopped the collation of Kebbi Central senate election results on Sunday following the disappearance of the Returning Officer for Marafa Ward, Birnin Kebbi.
Interestingly, Governor Bagudu and Aliero had since June 5, 2007 occupied the parliament seat.
Alhaji Adamu Aliero , who was the governor of Kebbi state between 29 May 1999 and 29 May 2007. had gotten elected as representative of Kebbi Central in the senate but left on December 18, 2008 sequel to his appointment as Minister of Federal Capital Territory by late Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’adua.
Aliero left office as minister in March 2010 when the then acting president Goodluck Jonathan dissolved the Federal Executive Council.
Whilst Aliero was serving as minister , Bagudu had won the by-election for the Kebbi Central and in the senate election that was later held in April 2011, Aliero had stood as CPC candidate while Bagudu was the PDP candidate.
Governor Bagudu eventually emerged victorious, but he left the senate seat to become the governor of Kebbi state in 2015 and Aliero took over the parliament seat.
With his election victory on Saturday , Aliero would be retaining the senate seat this year.
While the Kebbi North senate election has remained inconclusive, Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah of APC has also lost his parliament seat as INEC has declared the PDP candidate, Garba Musa Mai Doki winner of the Kebbi South senate election.
It will be recalled that Governors Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Ben Ayade of Cross River and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu had also lost out in the senate elections held in their respective senatorial districts on Saturday.
Ten governors, who would be completing their second and final terms in office in May this year, had stood as candidates in the elections held on Saturday.
Three serving governors; David Umahi of Ebonyi State, Abubakar Sani Bello, Niger State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State had however been declared winners of the senate elections held in their respective senatorial districts on Saturday.

The political future of Governor Aminu Tambuwal hangs in the balance as the outcome of the Sokoto South senate election was still being awaited- Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
