Gov Bagudu Wins Last Lap Of ‘Political Battle’ As INEC Declares Nasiru Idris Winner Of Kebbi Guber Election
Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state has won the last lap of the political battle involving him and one of his predecessors; Senator Adamu Aliero.
The relationship between Bagudu and Aliero had obviously become frosty early 2022 and Aliero had in June last year left the APC for the PDP citing ‘ injustices we endured in our former party, APC’.
The supplementary governorship election held in the state on Saturday marked the last lap of the political battle between Aliero and Bagudu and it has resulted in victory for the current Kebbi state governor.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared APC candidate, Dr Nasiru Idris, winner of the 2023 Kebbi state Governorship Election.
The returning officer for the 2023 governorship election, Professor Sa’idu Yusuf, said the APC candidate got 409,225 votes while Aminu Bande of the PDP had 360, 940 votes.
‘I, Sa’idu Yusuf, returning officer for the Kebbi State Governorship Election hereby declared Nasiru Idris of the APC winner of the governorship election having polled a total of 409,225 votes and having satisfying the requirements of the law’ he submitted.
It will be recalled that the governorship election held in the state on March 18 was declared inconclusive by INEC as a result of cases of violence and overvoting.
In the senate election held in February, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero had gotten declared winner of the Kebbi Central senate election and he would be retaining his parliament seat in the tenth senate.
He had defeated Governor Atiku Bagudu, who was the Kebbi Central APC senate candidate.
The Returning Officer for the Kebbi Central senate election, Professor Abbas Yusuf, who announced the election results, had noted that Senator Aliero of the PDP got 126,588 votes while Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu had 92,389 votes.
Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah of the APC had also lost his parliament seat to the PDP candidate, Garba Musa Mai Doki in Kebbi South.
Kebbi Central which has Aliero as its representative comprises eight local governments ; Gwandu, Bunza, Aliero, Maiyama, Koko-Besse, Jega, Kalgo and Birnin Kebbi.
Interestingly, Governor Bagudu and Aliero had since June 5, 2007 occupied the parliament seat.
Alhaji Adamu Aliero , who was the governor of Kebbi state between 29 May 1999 and 29 May 2007, had gotten elected as representative of Kebbi Central in the senate but left on December 18, 2008 sequel to his appointment as Minister of Federal Capital Territory by late Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’adua.
Aliero left office as minister in March 2010 when the then acting president Goodluck Jonathan dissolved the Federal Executive Council.
Whilst Aliero was serving as minister , Bagudu had won the by-election for the Kebbi Central and in the senate election that was later held in April 2011, Aliero had stood as CPC candidate while Bagudu was the PDP candidate.
Governor Bagudu eventually emerged victorious, but he left the senate seat to become the governor of Kebbi state in 2015 and Aliero took over the parliament seat which he still retains- Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
