Gov Ganduje Takes Steps To ‘Protect’ Decisions , Actions As Kano Assembly Passes Emirate Council Amendment Bill
Governor Abdulahi Ganduje of Kano state would be leaving office on May 29, 2023, and he would not have the privilege of having a ‘friendly person’ as head of the incoming administration in the state.
It will be recalled that Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf, who was the Kano state NNPP governorship candidate , was declared winner of the 2023 gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last month.
Yusuf had in the guber election got 1,019,602 votes while his main rival, the APC candidate , Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna had 890,705 votes.
Having possibly realized this, the governor has apparently begun to take steps to defend his decisions and actions.
Kano state House of Assembly disclosed on Tuesday that it has passed the Kano Emirate Council Amendment Bill, 2019 into Law noting that this was done during the plenary session presided over by Speaker Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned Uba Abdullahi, who is the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, noted in a statement issued in Kano that the bill was passed into law after undergoing a series of deliberations in the Committee of the Whole House.
Governor Ganduje in his eight years as governor did a lot of things that had influenced the course of history especially when it comes to chieftaincy matters.
Apart from creating new emirate councils, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi was also removed as Emir of Kano in March 2020 .
It will be recalled that in 2019, the House of Assembly approved the creation of four additional emirate councils, bringing the number of First Class Emirs in the state to five.
The new councils are Gaya; Karaye, Rano, Bichi and the old Kano Emirate Council.
Justice Usman Na’Abba of the state high court however in November 2019 declared this as null and void submitting that the house of assembly did not follow due process in creating the new emirates.
A fresh bill was however sent to the house of assembly one month later .
Also when the law to create four new emirates was passed in 2019, it noted that the chairmanship would be done in rotation by the emirs but it was later amended in September 2020 to make the Emir of Kano the permanent chairman.
Kano state House of assembly also on Tuesday received a letter from Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje which requested the screening and confirmation of the appointment of Mahmoud Balarabe as substantive Chairman of Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission.
The House of Assembly noted that the letter has been made available to the committee on anti-corruption for further legislative action.
The house of assembly also received separate letters from the governor on a draft bill for the establishment of Rural Access Road Agency and Kano State Anthem developed by the Kano State Government and Bayero University for consideration and passage into law, ditto the Draft Sectoral and Systematic Land Tilting and Registration Bill 2022(1443 A.H.) – Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
