Gov Idris Orders Immediate Repair Of Flood-Damaged Birnin Kebbi–Niger International Road

The governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), has directed the immediate repair of a section of the Birnin Kebbi–Niger International Road that flood washed away recently following a heavy downpour.

The affected section lies along the vital Birnin Kebbi–Makera–International Road, a major route linking Kebbi State to the Republic of Niger.

The road plays a significant role in regional trade and transportation and the Commissioner for Works has been directed to immediately engage a reputable construction firm for an assessment and urgent rehabilitation of the damaged portion to ensure smooth traffic flow.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki noted that Dr Idris said this during an inspection visit to the flood-damaged road on Wednesday while he has also ordered that the Works commissioner should bring the cost estimate for the repair work tomorrow for prompt approval.

‘This road is not only important to Kebbi State but also to the entire nation. Its economic value is immense.

Engage a competent company, follow due process, and mobilize the necessary professionals.

Submit the cost to me between now and tomorrow. I will approve it and release 50% mobilization funds immediately to commence the repair work’ he said.

Governor Idris restated his administration’s commitment to proactive governance and prioritizing the welfare of the people.

He urged the commissioner and relevant stakeholders to constantly update him on critical infrastructure needs, noting that ‘even as  a governor, I may not know everything’.

Reflecting on past experiences, he said, ‘Last year’s rainy season came with challenges due to road and bridge collapses.  We must avoid a repeat this year’.

He has also emphasized the importance of quality and durability.

‘Is the engineering work durable enough?

We must ensure standard, uncompromised quality in all our projects’ he added.

Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar Faruq Muslim, explained that the road got damaged because of inadequate provision of relief culverts, which caused rainwater to erode the roadbed while noting that in line with the governor’s directive, he has already initiated immediate action to begin the repair work.

The governor was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Abubakar Tafida- –Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
