Gov Idris Promises Continued Support For Sports Development, Donates Coaster Bus

Kebbi State governor,  Dr Nasir Idris, has pledged continued support for sports development in the state.

The governor has also donated a Coaster Bus for transportation needs of clubs and promised to improve both Bulasa and Haliru Abdu Stadia.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki noted that he said this during the ‘championship match’ of the Governor’s Cup soccer Competition that had teams from the 21 Local Governments in the state as participants.

The final match was held at the FIFA model Stadium, Bulasa, near Birnin Kebbi on Saturday with Yauri LG defeating Argungu LG by 2 goals to 1.

Yauri LG went home with the trophy and  the N1 million cash prize.

The runner-up, Argungu LG won the silver medal and N750,000 cash prize while Jega LG defeated Zuru LG to emerge as second runner-up winning a bronze medal and N500,000 cash prize.

‘Football and other games are powerful tools for fostering unity, social cohesion, and togetherness’ the governor submitted while presenting the Governor’s Cup, Kauran Gwandu 2025 Trophy, to the Captain of the victorious Yauri team, who later handed it over to the Local Government Chairman.

Chairman of  Kebbi State NFA, Alhaji Abubakar Cika Ladan, commended the governor for reviving the competition after a 20-year hiatus, citing his moral and material support as crucial.

Ladan requested the expansion of Bulasa Stadium’s sitting capacity from 250 to between 1,000 and 2,000, and appealed for electricity supply to activate a borehole already sunk at the venue.

He disclosed that 100 young players were selected from across local governments during the competition for further training, with plans to engage coaches from within Kebbi and across Nigeria to nurture their talents—encouraging them to follow in the footsteps of Portugal-based Jega-born footballer, Zeidu Sanusi.

Ladan also revealed that Zamfara United has chosen Bulasa Stadium for its league matches due to the venue’s improvements, with a game scheduled against Plateau United this Sunday in Birnin Kebbi.

The final match, held on Saturday, was graced by dignitaries including NFF Secretary-General and Kebbi indigene, Dr. Muhammad Sanusi, Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, and Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida.

Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, wife of the governor, received a merit award for her contribution to sports development through the NASARA Foundation-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
