Kebbi state Government will soon establish a Commission for Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs).
Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakuu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, disclosed this while talking to journalists at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi shortly after the State Executive Council meeting that was presided over by Governor Nasiru Idris.
He explained that the decision to establish the commission was reached at the State Executive Council meeting while adding that a bill has been sent to the parliament in respect of this.
‘This came about as a result of a BBC Hausa programme, ‘A Fada a Cika’ on the 1st of January where some persons with disabilities complained directly to the governor.
They complained that this decision was taken by many states, that it was a national matter approved by the National Assembly and most of the states have established the commission while Kebbi is one of the few states that have not done so’ he said.
The governor, he noted, after getting complaints from some persons with disabilities during the programme directed the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State to quickly prepare the bill and bring it to the Council meeting for onward transmission to the State House of Assembly for approval.
The Commissioner noted that as soon as the House of Assembly ratifies the bill , the governor would sign it into law.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Wednesday by Governor Nasiru’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Yahaya Sarki noted that Ahmed also announced that during the meeting, Governor Nasir Idris, the Kauran Gwandu , also approved that the annual Rigatta Cultural Festival of Yauri Emirate should be held from 7th to 10th February, 2024.
‘While submissions have been made for approval in view of time constraints, the governor has directed the immediate release of funds to the Emirate to start the preparations’ he said.
The Commissioner further explained that earlier, the Emir of Yauri , Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi had met with the governor at the Council Chamber and requested for assistance to hold the Ragatta festival in Yauri, which he instantly approved.
He also disclosed that the Emir of Yauri has requested for the review of monthly allowances of the traditional rulers, which the governor has promised to look into.
This, he said, would enable them to perform their functions more diligently.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nuradeen Fingila , the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on New Media, Aliyu Bandado and the Chief Press Secretary Alhaji Ahmed Idris attended the press briefing-Team@orientactualmags.com
