
Kebbi State governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, who is the Kauran Gwandu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining the fight against polio and ensuring that the state remains polio-free.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki noted in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com that Idris said this during the flag-off ceremony of the Polio Outbreak Response Immunization Campaign in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.

Governor Idris also emphasized the importance of collaboration with stakeholders in order to ensure that every child in Kebbi State gets vaccinated through robust immunization programmes.
‘Kebbi State Government is wholly committed to the health and wellbeing of our people. We will continue working with partners to ensure that every child, even in the most remote areas, receives the polio vaccine. Safeguarding the health of our children is a top priority’ he stated.
The governor further assured that although Kebbi is currently polio-free, his administration will sustain immunization campaigns to prevent potential outbreaks from neighboring states.
‘This crippling disease is real. I urge all parents to ensure their children are vaccinated. The vaccine is safe and effective’ he added.
Governor Idris called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, local government officials, and community heads to support the immunization programme for its successful implementation.
‘We appreciate the dedication of healthcare workers to this cause. With combined efforts and unity of purpose, we will maintain a polio-free Kebbi’ the governor submitted while announcing the donation of ₦5 million to district heads who have mobilized parents and children for the immunization exercise.
The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera, commended Governor Idris for his unwavering support to the campaign against polio in Kebbi State noting that Kebbi State has been polio-free since 2011.
As Chairman of the Traditional Leaders Council Against Polio and Co-Chairman of the Kebbi State Task Force on Immunization, the Emir also emphasized the need for continued vigilance.
‘The fight against polio requires sustained effort. There is no room for complacency’ he said while pledging the commitment of traditional rulers to mobilizing their communities.
Commissioner for Health, Comrade Yunusa Isma’ila, highlighted the administration’s prioritization of public health and healthcare sector improvements.
‘The flag-off of this immunization programme underscores our dedication to eliminating polio entirely and protecting every child in Kebbi State’ he said.
In a goodwill message, Dr. Nasir Zurmi of the World Health Organization (WHO) commended Kebbi State for achieving 100% success in its polio eradication efforts and pledged continued support in order to sustain this progress.
