Gov Obaseki Has Betrayed Me After ‘Risking It All’ To Make Him Win Re-election –-Edo Deputy Gov

Gov Obaseki Has Betrayed Me After ‘Risking It All’ To Make Him Win Re-election –-Edo Deputy Gov

The Deputy Governor of Edo state, Philip Shaibu, on Tuesday,  accused his boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki of betraying him after putting everything on the line to ensure that he won re-election three years ago.

Philip , who is a PDP gubernatorial aspirant, apparently said this in reaction to the development recorded on Sunday which had some PDP leaders in Edo North gathering to declare support for  a former chairman of Sterling Bank, Asue Ighodalo.

The meeting was at the instance of a former deputy governor in the state, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, while Obaseki is also belirved to be supporting  Ighodalo.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Philip, who   has expressed bottled-up emotions while appearing as a guest on Arise TV’s Morning Show,  also noted that he was not happy that the governor has let him down.

‘Because I hate oppression, I staked my relationship. That relationship, I lost about 20% of my political capital in Edo North to support Godwin Obaseki and in supporting him, even as deputy governor that does not have any line financially, through my friends and others, I supported the second term bid of the governor with my structures, all my vehicles and finances including how we got the  PDP nominations, I contributed financially both in naira and dollars and I discovered I was even duped.

So, if I say betrayal, it is an understatement. I feel very hurt and betrayed because I sacrificed my personal earnings and entitlement just to have the system working.

We do not have time to experiment in Edo state because we have experimented with Governor Godwin Obaseki and some of us have to go extra mile to cover the gaps. People are saying Shaibu is one popular deputy governor but I only have two portfolios and so I have to be filling the gaps’ he said.

Philip also faulted claims that being from Edo North will naturally stand as a disadvantage with respect to getting the PDP nomination, adding that if equity and justice is followed, the ruling party will zone the nomination to his senatorial district.

‘So, coming from the same area as Oshiomhole is not the real issue. The real issue is what I am bringing to the table. And if we want to talk about zoning and agenda, the real agenda is that Edo North has never been given ticket to contest for governorship election by the PDP.

So, when we go into the equity and fairness that the governor is championing, that equity and fairness seems to favour PDP giving the ticket to Philip Shaibu. I can tell you the people of Edo state do not want an outsider and the governor is bringing an outsider and we will resist it’ he added.

Obaseki and Shuaib were political godsons of Senator Adams Oshiomole but they parted ways with him ahead of the September 19, 2020, gubernatorial election.

Oshiomole ,who was then the APC National Chairman, had ensured that the governor was disqualified and stopped from getting renominated while Osagie Ize-Iyamu got the mandate to run on the party’s ticket.

Obaseki left the APC for PDP in June 2020 and his deputy, who is Oshiomole’s kinsman, also followed suit.

Shaibu is planning to succeed Obaseki next year and it has become obvious that his boss will not welcome the idea of having him as his successor-Team@orientactualmags.com
