Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has submitted that the leading opposition party, the PDP must apologize to Nigerians over former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s divisive comments.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned Wike said this while talking to journalists at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government..
Wike had last week left the country for Spain along with Governors Seyi Makinde , Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, and Samuel Ortom .
It will be recalled that Atiku had been quoted to have said an average northerner does not need an Igbo or a Yoruba president while addressing a gathering in Kaduna on Saturday.
‘I know the whole of this country. I have built bridges across this country. I think what an average northerner needs, is somebody who is from the north, who also understands the other parts of Nigeria, and who has been able to build bridges across the rest of the country. This is what the northerner needs. He (the northerner) doesn’t need a Yoruba or an Igbo candidate. This is what the northerner needs. I stand before you as a pan-Nigerian of northern origin’ he had said.
Wike, who expressed doubts that Atiku made such a comment, however, said doing this at a period of transition for the nation will justify calls for equity, fairness and justice.
The governor said the PDP must as a matter of urgency address the issue in order for Nigerians not to see the party which is preparing to take over power in 2023 as insensitive and devoid of justice which it preaches- Team@orientactualmags.com
