Govt Delegation Visits Kebbi Indigenes Studying In India

A delegation from Kebbi State has visited India to interact with indigenes of the state who are studying there.

Governor Nasir Idris’ Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki noted in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Wednesday that the delegation, led by the Commissioner for Finance, Abubakar Muhammad Birnin Kebbi, also included the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Hon. Shafiu Zauro, who has talked about the visit right from India.

Hon. Zauro said the purpose of the trip is to meet with Kebbi State students studying at three Indian Universities; Subharti University, GD Goenka University, and Kalinga University, in order to assess their academic progress and understand the challenges they may be facing while noting that this was done at the instance of the governor.

‘As you may know, we have over 200 Kebbi State indigenes studying medical courses in these Universities, sponsored by the state government.

Gov. Nasir Idris felt it is necessary to assess their well-being and academic performances firsthand,  identify and address any issues they may be encountering. That is why we are here’ he said.

Hon. Zauro noted that approximately half of the students are expected to graduate by July this year, while the rest will complete their studies next year.

‘At GD Goenka University, we have 37 students. Ten graduated last year, while the remaining will graduate in July this year.

At Kalinga University, we have 42 students, all of whom are set to graduate this July.

At Subharti University, we have 20 students who are expected to graduate in 2026.

All these students are enrolled in Medical and Engineering courses’  he added.

According to him, most of the students were initially sent abroad by the previous administration, but the Kauran Gwandu-led government chose to continue funding their scholarships rather than abandon them.

He commended Gov. Nasir Idris for his unwavering commitment to education and for ensuring the prompt payment of scholarships to students in India and other countries.

It will be recalled that in January this year, the Kebbi State Government released N585.4 million for the payment of tuition fees for the state- sponsored students studying in India, which had further underscored the governor’s dedication to educational development-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
