High Food Prices: Civil Society Leaders, Young People Hit The Streets Of Osogbo, Benin City

Civil society leaders under the umbrella of Joint Action Force Coalition for Revolution, Osun Civil Society Coalition, members of the Federation of Informal Workers in Osun state, and some young people in the State of the Living Spring hit the streets of Osogbo on Monday to protest against high food prices in the country.
They also condemned the idea of channeling the money realized after the removal of petrol subsidy through the state governors.
One of the organizers, Mr Waheed Saka, said the protest was organised ahead of a bigger demonstration against the economic hardship being faced by Nigerians.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the protesters had converged on the Freedom Park, Osogbo , the rendezvous, from where they embarked on protest march , and later gathered under the Orita Olaiya flyover where their leaders talked to reporters.
Security agents including cops and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officers were seen at the venue ostensibly to ensure that the protest is held peacefully.
Saka, who warned that the current current economic hardship may lead to a bigger crisis if not quickly addressed, alleged that state governors have not been seen as good managers of resources .
‘The essence of this protest is to mobilize the people for a bigger and larger protest that will be done nationwide which will force the arms of government to do the right thing. We are not requesting too much, we are saying to fulfill your promise, that is not too much to ask from the government and the promise is not to make life difficult for the people or increase hardship on average Nigerians’ he said.
In Edo state, civil society leaders also hit the streets of Benin City, the state capital, on Monday .

The protesters ,who are members of the Civil Society Organizations in the state, carried placards with different inscriptions including ‘End Economic Hardship’, and ‘FG End the Hunger in Nigeria Now’ -Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
