I Didn’t Invite Anti-Graft Agencies To Probe My Immediate Predecessor-Wike
Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has described as untrue media reports claiming that he had invited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to probe his immediate predecessor, Alhaji Muhammad Bello in respect of certain irregularities in the award of contracts.
Wike had allegedly sent a letter to the anti-graft agencies asking them to investigate the former minister over his involvement in sharp practices with regard to the contract of various ongoing projects in the FCT.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that this was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Press in the FCT Ministry, Anthony Ogunleye.
The minister described the report as baseless and untrue.
‘We categorically and unequivocally state that these reports are entirely baseless and without any merit whatsoever’ the statement said.
Wike according to him had during routine inspections of various projects within the FCT, expressed concern over irregularities observed in the procurement and execution of certain projects but he never authorized an invitation by the anti-graft agencies to investigate Bello.
‘The FCT Minister during his routine inspections of various projects within the FCT, had indeed expressed concerns and frustrations regarding irregularities observed in the procurement and execution of certain projects, amongst other observations which he expressed publicly.
However, at no point did he contemplate or authorize any action by anyone within or outside the FCT Administration to invite the EFCC or ICPC to investigate the former FCT Minister in connection with these or any other matters’ the statement added-Team@orientactualmags.com
