I Prefer Ibadan Throne Over Presidential Villa-Senator Kola Balogun
A member of the Nigerian Senate has disclosed that he prefers to become the Olubadan of Ibadan land rather than becoming the occupant of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Senator Kola Balogun, who represents Oyo South, is the immediate younger brother of the current Olubadan of Ibadan; Dr. Lekan Balogun.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned the senator said this while giving a keynote speech during the 30th World Press Freedom Day organized by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone B in Ibadan, Oyo state.
He spoke on ‘Freedom of expression: A driver for all other human rights’.
Balogun would be leaving the senate next month and he has accused a high chief in Ibadan of stopping him from getting party nomination last year.
He added that the high chief in question had done this because of the role he played in the emergence of the present Olubadan, those who were his co-contestants however eventually earned election loss in the General Election.
‘If you ask me to choose between the presidency of this country and the Olubadan, I will choose Olubadan’ he said.
The senator, who described himself as an uncompromising advocate of freedom of expression, noted that natural freedom is difficult to suppress while calling for better remuneration, substantial welfare packages and improved personal security for media practitioners.
The event was attended by some members of the Olubadan -In -Council including High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola; the Otun Balogun of Ibadan land, High Chief Aransi Adebimpe and Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN)- Team@orientactualmags.com
