I Was Once A Commissioner, I’ll No Longer Tolerate Absenteeism, Insubordination From Anyone-Gov Eno
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has warned members of his cabinet against disrespect for authority, insubordination, or absenteeism noting that henceforth, he will not hesitate to wield the big stick.
Anyone who dares him, he added, will get fired without delay.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the governor said this in a viral video posted by the African Independent Television on Saturday.
It was learned that the cabinet members had shown lackadaisical attitude in respect of their duties and responsibilities while complaining that funds have not been provided for the running of their respective offices.
They reportedly do say in local language ‘Mkpo Ibaha’ meaning ‘there’s nothing in government’.
The governor was said to have felt incensed following a recent incident that had the commissioners failing to accompany him to the event he had left to attend after they had joined him to attend an occasion earlier in the day.
He noted that what they are required to do is ‘a full-time job, which they must do 24/7’.
‘Starting from today, if you hear that I have fired a commissioner from your local government, it is insubordination, It is wrong for me as a governor to go to an event if nobody else follows me, my commissioners and Special Advisers are my first eleven and I do not announce where I will go , it is mandatory for them to follow me back to the office or to the Lodge and if I stop off to do anything anywhere there may be issues that will be raised ,so, the commissioner in charge of the ministry will be there to attend to me. A situation where we go to a place and leave the place and the commissioners will leave for where I don’t know.
It is a full time job so, if any commissioner is busy doing his or her thing the person is not ready to be commissioner, I was once a commissioner myself, and I can’t remember any day I left my governor behind.
Today is the last time I will talk about this and I am doing it publicly, anytime I leave an event, and I stop off to do anything anywhere let the commissioners pray that I will not need them for any clarification , if I need anyone and he or she is not around, he or she will lose the appointment right there and then, this has to stop, we are running a government.
The fact that I am simple does not mean that I am an appointed governor; I was elected by the people with overwhelming votes of the people, if you are not ready to work for Akwa Ibom people, then you stay at home’ he said.
The cabinet members, he added, must be fully committed to the effective implementation of his administration’s ARISE Agenda to ensure the delivery of the dividends of democracy to the electorate while warning that commissioners who prioritize personal matters over their official responsibilities would be sacked-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
